Connection to printers over RDP doesn't work

    Hello everybody,

our company is using the .print RDP Engine with a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with Terminal-Services. This Server is
running on VMware vSphere as a virtual machine. Since we installed a few windows updates and vmware tools update
the printers from our external staff doesn't appear on the Server in the printer configuration.
Could it be possible that the updates are the problem? I'm note sure but we didn't make any other changes.

    What i checked:
    - the service "TP AutoConnect Service" is running
    - the licence is activated
    - the printer "_#ThinPrint Output Gateway" is in the printer configuration and ready
    - i reinstalled the software

Thank you for your help or ideas!

Some of the VMware products include Thinprint components if vmware tools is installed, Im not sure if vSphere is included...
If no printers are being autocreated, try running the following command within the session:

    tpautoconnect -v

This will force the autocreation, and if something is wrong, it will give us an error.

    What are  your results?

Thank you for the command! When i run this command in a sessions the
connection to the printer is established over the thinprint output gateway without any error.
What's the now best solution? One possibility would be to run this command
automatically when a user logs into the server, right?

The autocreation of the printers should be automatic, no need to do it manually every time.  You can try the following:

Uncheck the 'enable sending printer properties' from the .print client configuration->Assignments tab

Restart session. what are the results?

Re: Connection to printers over RDP doesn't work

    Good morning,

i disabled the "enable sending printer properties" and started a new session.
The result was that the "Thinprint Output Gateway" is taged as the standard printer and
    the local printer isn't connected.
When i run the command tpautoconnect -v the connection to the printer is established again
    without any error.

    Hi,

Your assumption is (sadly) correct - the new ESX 4.0 used by vSphere ships new VMware Tools which also contain ThinPrint components - see this article in our TechNews[0].
The "virtual printing", as VMware calls it, is not active but interfering with the already installed ThinPrint .print RDP Engine.

To clear this situation, please follow the below steps:
    • uninstall the .print RDP Engine
    • download the VMware Tools clean up package from the Download section [1]
    • run the tool
    • reboot and reinstall the .print RDP Engine 7.6
If there are any problems, please contact ThinPrint's support via email!

Hi- I am having the same issue. I am using server 2008. The script in the download section seems to fail. Is there anything out there for 2008? How about just a list of the changes/commands for a manual install?
