Our environment is W2003 terminal services with ThinPrint 7.6. Our terminal servers have 100 concurrent users, each user on average has 5 printers. Users all log in within a 20 minute window. So we need to create 500 printers in a 20 minute window.
Problem is that the printer creation within the spooler is taking 5-10 seconds per printer - so that is an hour and a half to create the printers!
This is nothing to do with ThinPrint retrieving the printer details from the client - its simply the process of creating the printer in Windows - i.e. the spooler processing.
We've had a peek with sysinternals and have seen that TP uses a mutex to ensure only one printer is created at a time by the spooler.
Has anyone else come across this problem - i.e. taking too long to create printers - is there any way to speed it up?
Why does TP only allow one printer to be created at a time? - can this behaviour be changed?
thanks,
Dave
